Dr.  Rory L. MCINTOSH I am a forest entomologist working as a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. John Borden at the Centre for Pest Management at Simon Fraser University here in Burnaby, Canada.  In my current research I am working on the chemical ecology of the major woodborer species which negatively impact timber products harvested from the forests in British Columbia.  In particular I am working on species in the Buprestidae, Cerambycidae and Siricidae, while Dr. Borden is focusing on the Ambrosia Beetles. Specifically, I am looking at host-volatiles to develop a trap-bait in addition to non-host volatiles which might be used as repellants. We hope to improve the trap-bait (Ethanol and alpha-pinene) currently used in operational IPM trapping programs (like that described by Ian Wilson) to provide better protection of logs in industrial areas.  We also hope that advances in the area of chemical ecology might provide us with improved capabilities to detect and monitor exotics. I am relatively new to "the woodborers" and I am looking forward to the interaction and discussion with many of you who have experience in the trapping and identification of buprestids. Dr.  Rory L. McIntosh - E-mail: rmcin@sfu.ca
